The R50/2 replaced the R50 in the range in 1960. Compared to its predecessor, it only changed externally in a few details. The indicators at the end of the handlebars were now standard and the two-seater saddle was available as an option. On the engine side, the power did not change and was still 26 hp at 5800 rpm. However, this new model had some modifications concerning reliability. The crankshaft and clutch were reinforced, the breather system was improved, the pistons were three-segment, the compression ratio increased from 6.8 to 7.5 to 1 and the carburetors adopted a needle valve instead of the needle-needle valve.

On the chassis side, the biggest modification came in 1962 with the reinforcement of the frame. Gussets were added at the steering column and a reinforcement was added between the lower part of the frame and the tube supporting the swingarm axle.

In 1967, an evolution was proposed only for the American market, the R50US.

It was replaced in 1969 by the new 5 series and in particular the R50/5 after a production of 19,036 units.

The R50S is the 500 sports model of the new range presented in September 1960 and including the R27, the R50/2, the R60/2, the R50S and the R69S. It develops the power of 35 hp at 7650 rpm, the same power as the R69.

Compared to the other models in the range, it has a steering damper. However, like its big sister R69S, this is hydraulic. The gearbox has tight ratios

It experienced reliability problems from its release, largely due to the fairly high rotation speed. It was withdrawn from the catalog in 1962 after a production of 1634 units.
